Its supposed to keep some animals away as well as adding nutrients to the soil. Far as I know charcoal comes from prepared wood. Read the ingredients and make sure there are no dangerous additives in the charcoal that don't burn off.|||I use wood ash as a soil ammendment in my vegetable garden, but charcoal ash contains a lot of chemical additives and should be tossed in the trash.
