Independence Day is coming up (July 4th), which signifies our independence from Great Britain.

We celebrate with cookouts and fireworks. We decorate in our country's colors of red, white & blue. Typically we're not talking about WHY we're celebrating but just enjoying each others company at a bar-b-que or over cold beers.

What holidays do you celebrate in the same manner such as cookouts or fireworks?

TO CLARIFY: I had to choose United Kingdom as GB is not listed, UK is Scotland as well right? Which may have completely different holidays than GB?|||scotland does have some different holidays not many though
its all down to xmas and new year then easter
all the rest are mondays called bank holidays
we do have 4 weeks annual leave though
we dont flag wave so much and fireworks are for new year|||Other than Christmas and Easter, the only real celebration we have that I can think of is Guy Fawkes night (also called bonfire night) on 5th November each year. It celebrates the day on which a plot to blow up our Parliament was foiled in 1605. We make huge bonfires, make effigies of Guy Fawkes (one of the main conspirators) out of old clothes, put them on the bonfire and set them alight. We also let off countless fireworks (the plot involved using gunpowder to blow up Parliament so it fits quite well).

Btw, I think there's a bit of confusion about our country. Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales; the United Kingdom consists of Great Britain plus Northern Ireland. Scotland is therefore part of both the UK and Great Britain.
