I have a very large mirror frame (4feet by 6 feet) that I want to paint. It is very curly que with mirror showing in a lot of different places. It would take forever to tape to keep from getting paint on the mirror. The frame is smooth. The frame is gold in color and I want to change it to a brown tone.
Please list the steps I need to take and the type of paint I need to get.|||I assume that the frame is not easily removed from the mirror, and as such, depending on the type of finish you desire, flat, satin, gloss, etc, any good quality paint would suffice. Probably the type finish I would recommend would be a high gloss using an Enamel base paint. Check this site for types of paint and uses... This paint adheres well and you would probably only need one coat. It goes on well with a brush, although if you could remove the frame, I would suggest a spray paint using a high gloss lacquer. This gives you a very high gloss finish that also wears very well. Good luck with your project.|||They have paints you can use on plastic (spray paints) at Walmart and every home store in the country. You should not need primer. You'd probably need 2 cans.

1. Cut paper bags or newspaper large enough to cover your mirror. Tape blue painter's tape around the edges to hold in place.

2. Clean the surface of the frame with soap and water. Let dry. Use sandpaper to LIGHTLY scuff the plastic. Don't obsess, the paint is good.

3. Spray outside only. Set the mirror on a LOT of newspaper, much bigger than the mirror, because the spray will spread in the air.

4. Start spraying, short smooth strokes right to left, about 8" at a time. Don't spray so much it drips. Spray one coat, then see if you need another. Untape and you're set to go.

Good luck!

Spray Painting Tip from Krylon:
Create your own "spray booth" to make clean up easy. Select a cardboard box large enough to fit your project. In a well-ventilated area, set the box on its side on top of a drop cloth (to catch any accidental over spray). Place your project inside and spray|||You could coat the glass in petroleum jelly, paint won't stick to that!
The clean up would just take a while.

Also, I believe "Krylon" markets a paint specifically for plastic surfaces. Good luck!|||Why not see if you can take the frame off of the mirror to paint it? It shouldn't be that hard to do.
