Here they are, could anyone explain the difference in meaning?
Ella me dijo que no hiciera tanto ejercicio.
and
Ella me dijo que no haga tanto ejercicio.
Any help?|||In the spanish I speak there isn't any noticeable difference, so if I'm told either of this two sentences I understand: She told me not to exercise/(work out) that much. But in grammar this is the difference:
Ella me dijo que no hiciera tanto ejercicio. The word "hiciera" in Imperfect Subjunctive, so the action that is being referenced to happened in the past and must likely ended or does not continue to happen. Meaning that "she told me not work out so much, so I don't do it anymore"
and
Ella me dijo que no haga tanto ejercicio. The word "haga" is in Present Subjunctive, so the action that is being referenced to must likely has not ended or continues to happen in the present. Meaning that "she told me not work out so much, but I haven't stopped doing it"
